The added cost of Christmas can be a very stressful time of year for some people already struggling to make ends meet. Starting in early November, our Community & Family Services Coordinator is hard at work pairing up sponsors to local people in need. With your help these families and individuals will be able to provide a memorable Christmas for themselves and loved ones.

We offer 2 different sponsorship options to choose from and a large variety of people in need, this means anyone can be a sponsor! From full-filling a large family’s ultimate Christmas wish list, to donating a single toy to our office, to sponsoring a lonely senior this Christmas, we will find the right fit for you!

Adopt a Family clients come from a variety of backgrounds, including:

  • Single mothers or fathers
  • Working families trying to make ends meet
  • Seniors with custody of their grandchildren
  • Individual seniors living alone
  • New immigrant families
  • Parents and/or children with disabilities

What is a recipient?

A “recipient” is an individual or family that will receive (get) gift items and groceries for Christmas.

What is a sponsor?

A “sponsor” is an individual, family, company, or other organization that chooses to give gifts and groceries to a registered “recipient” in need. Sponsors may donate physical gift items, gift cards, or monetary donations.

Monetary donations go into our Adopt a Family fund where the Ridge Meadows Ministries team will use these funds to buy gift items (toys, clothes, etc.) and grocery gift cards. We do not gift cash to any “recipient”.

Who does my donation/sponsorship help?

At The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries we primarily serve seniors and seniors with custody of their grand-children. We also serve low income families and individuals that otherwise (for whatever reason) do not qualify for service from other organizations. We have many immigrant families as well. With such a wide demographic of clients we are able to tailor match sponsors and recipients.

There is a section within the online application to check off what types of families/individuals you are looking to help this Christmas and we use this information in the matching process. Whether you select option 1: Non-direct contact (you receive a wish list and do the shopping for the client) or option 2: Donations only (you provide non-specific gift or monetary donations) we will honor your demographic request.

How do I qualify to be a recipient (get gifts)?

In order to qualify for our Adopt a Family program applicants must posses ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Currently reside in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows
  2. Struggling with low income or are in need of additional resources
  3. Have the ability to provide current proof of income and photo ID

How do I apply?

ALL registrations close December 6th 2021!

Donations are always accepted.

Can I apply on behalf of someone else?

Yes!

When will I receive my Adopt a Family Christmas hamper?

The exact schedule is to be determined. We generally aim to have your hamper ready 1 week before Christmas. 

Where do I pick up my Adopt a Family Christmas hamper?

The exact pick-up location is to be determined and you will be notified closer to the pick-up date.
