A Beacon of Light and Hope

Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, said that she took a tour of San Diego and it was then that she recognized a community that was in desperate need of a safe gathering place, a place with facilities and trained professionals to nurture children’s social skills, arts appreciation and athletic potential.*

Her wish was that 10,000s of children will have 100s of hours of enjoyment out of her facilities, and that “hearts will never become hardened with intolerance or hate”.  Upon her death, Joan Kroc bequeathed $1.5billion dollars to The Salvation Army to carry on the Kroc Center legacy across the United States.

Today there are 26 Kroc Centers from Coast to Coast, providing children and families with opportunities to discover and develop their passions and talents within their own neighborhood.
